Six Mistakes You Should Avoid When You Go Through Lifeguard Training

Successfully completing lifeguard training is essential if you want to work as a lifeguard. You need to avoid certain mistakes that could compromise your ability to successfully complete lifeguard training or land a job as a lifeguard afterward.

The following are six mistakes you should avoid when you go through lifeguard training.

Failing to get yourself in decent shape before you go through lifeguard training

Physical condition is an important consideration when you are going through lifeguard training. Future lifeguards need to be able to complete certain tasks as part of training that require some level of physical fitness.

For example, lifeguards in training need to be able to swim a certain minimum distance and tread water for a certain period of time. That's why it's important to get in decent shape before you start lifeguard training.

Not making connections with others with whom you undergo training

You'll need to work together with others in your training class as you are trained to become a lifeguard. It's important to not be shy and to make connections with others so that you can learn as much as possible and easily practice the lifeguarding techniques and maneuvers you learn during training.

Taking no notes

When you go through lifeguard training, you will have to complete a classroom portion during which you learn about topics such as CPR. It's important that you take notes when you go through these parts of training because some memorization will be required for you to pass certification tests.

Neglecting to study for tests

Lifeguard training usually requires students to undergo and pass numerous tests. Be sure to make a note of when you'll be taking tests so that you can prepare for them by studying. Studying for your tests will minimize the stress of going through lifeguard training and maximize your chances of success.

Assuming that lifeguard training is going to be very easy

Too many future lifeguards assume that lifeguard training is going to be much easier than it is. You will have to exert some effort, pay attention, and concentrate throughout lifeguard training to be successful.

Paying no attention to job opportunities during training

If you want to be trained as a lifeguard, you are going to need to land a job to put your training into practice afterward. Lifeguard training can provide you with many opportunities to connect with others and find employment opportunities as a lifeguard.
